Our sedation mentoring follows the protocols outlined in the Dental Sedation Teaching Guide www.dstg.co.uk, with 20 IV signed off cases being the recommended amount for a dentist.

Mentoring at your own practice is often the best way forward as you can arrange a session of assessments/treatments and are often more comfortable in your own surgery. Alternatively, if securing the number of sedation patients is a problem at your own clinic, mentees can be trained at Dr Bennett’s practice, Whitby Dental.

We would highly recommend that you bring your nurse with you and also that you attend an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course, if you haven’t already, before your mentoring commences.

The SAAD National course provides the underpinning knowledge and an introduction to the clinical skills required for providing safe conscious sedation but it is also necessary to undergo supervised clinical experience before embarking on independent practice.
The National Course in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry is both suitable as an introduction to postgraduate education in sedation and also as a refresher for practitioners wishing to remain up to date with current techniques and contemporary teaching.

2-day "Work-Based Assessment" program following DFay1 of Theory and practical demonstrations leading to a Certificate of Competency for Inhalation Sedation.

The current recommendation for new dental graduates and those new to dental Inhalation Sedation, is to arrange to treat 10 cases, mixed adults and children under supervision.The mentoring program, normally carried out over 2 days, once a theory and practical course have been completed. The program is carried out at the mentees own practice. Equipment can be provided at a modest additional cost.

Enrol and complete the accredited online didactic learning, online tasks, MCQs and practice assessment (24 hours verifiable CPD), you will receive your sedation pack in the post including your recommended textbook and USB

Complete and document 20 mentored IV cases/ 10 mentored Inhalation sedation cases either at our specialist sedation centre or in your practice; These will be supervised by an IACSD accredited mentor at our sedation centre, by one of our mentors at your practice or by one of your choosing; NB if using our centre please contact us prior to choosing the package below

Fully IACSD accredited training in IV conscious sedation (and Oral sedation/premedication) by way of online videos, demos, lectures, quizzes and downloads

Assistance in Accreditation of your chosen experienced mentor or provision of an experienced sedation diploma mentor

14 hours vCPD for the online training plus a potential 7 hours vCPD per day for the mentoring aspect.

Our Online Conscious Sedation Update course is updated every 6 months and is for dental teams and individuals already carrying out inhalation or intravenous conscious sedation in practice. This Course is based on a condensed version of the sedation diploma syllabus and so is the most comprehensive of its kind and as such covers 20 hours verifiable CPD! Following the completion of this course (or any other accredited sedation course such as SAAD or dentalsedationcourses.co.uk), we can offer mentoring in sedation which will accredit you to practice sedation independently.

Mentoring includes 20 cases of intravenous sedation (of which at least 10 cases will be operator-sedationist) and 10 cases of inhalation sedation (of which at least 5 cases will be operator-sedationist). You can opt to be mentored in either or both techniques.

The beginner course is divided into 2 stages:
Stage 1 - 2 Day theory course
Stage 2- 20 clinically assessed cases carried out under close supervision

We deliver our entire IV Sedation training course during an in house training day so it can often work out more economical for us to visit you rather than send a large team on one of our courses in Ilkley. We are happy to travel to most parts of the UK to deliver the training

The Manchester Sedation Course provides IACSD accredited training as well as providing 6 hours of enhanced CPD in conscious sedation. It is aimed at both beginners and those wishing to update their skills. We cover all the necessary theory and practical elements and offer beginners a structured mentoring program for them to get invaluable experience to ultimately provide conscious sedation independently.

Modern adhesive dentistry has allowed us to use far more conservative tooth preparation for indirect restorations. Whereas previously we may have used full coverage crowns we can now utilise the principles of enamel/dentine bonding to restore posterior teeth with ceramic or composite inlays/onlays, thus preserving precious tooth structure.
